How can customers get benefited using PaaS(Platform as a Service)???

The terms SaaS and PaaS are becoming a common norm in the Industry these days .Thanks to the recession!!! The CIOs and the CEOs want to cut down the costs of their IT spending.

Platform as a Service(PaaS) offers exactly what the companies are looking to do now due to the following reasons:

No IT Infrastructure Investments
No Software to install
No technical Development skills
On-Demand business applications!!!

PaaS addresses the concerns of the Companies by cutting the costs, helping them by pay as you use model, instead of investing heavily on the IT infrastructure which you are not sure of utilizing to the fullest extent.

It also offers the flexibility to maintain business application state and all details in XML format, creating zero dependency on software code to update to newer versions or to move to a new platform unlike the traditional Software.Customers can build Business & Productivity Applications, which help meet their unique business needs and demands without programming within days and weeks.

  2. Huh? Name one PaaS out there that is useful with “No technical Development skills”. The other benefits you mention are real, but one thing is true of PaaS, whether force.com or Google AppEngine or Bungee Labs or whoever; they are all development frameworks hosted and served over the Internet. Developers only need apply…

Perhaps some mashup tool or something would be an exception to this, but certainly not the core of what most think of as PaaS.

Perhaps you mean “no systems programming skills”? That I would agree with.

  3. Hi James,
Thanks for your comments. I agree that Force.com or Google AppEngine or Bungee Labs would still need some Development component.
As a Service provider and a Business User my clients, who are not IT related companies are present in different verticals ranging from Real Estate to Pharma .Recently, I have come across a Framework where I saw during a Demo that a simple application was created without requiring any coding.Just the simple Business Analysis and requirements were only required.Although this is in the Beta stage please take a look at this URL(www.wolfframeworks.com).

    Best regards,
    Ramesh
